How Nigerian Ginger Moves From Farm to Export

A source-backed look at K-CAP GLOBAL LTD's ginger sourcing, processing, quality specifications and export terms.

GingerSourcingLogistics

Nigeria is the world's third-largest exporter of dried ginger, and Kaduna State accounts for over 70-80% of national production. K-CAP GLOBAL LTD sources fresh ginger directly from farming communities in Kaduna, Nasarawa, Gombe, Benue and Niger States.

Production cycle

The founder source lists planting in March-April and harvesting from November-February, with fresh ginger requiring 8-10 months to reach full maturity for optimal drying quality.

Processing stages

Fresh rhizomes are washed, split lengthwise, dried, then graded and sorted. Sun drying takes 7-14 days depending on weather, while mechanical drying can reach the target 10-12% moisture content in 4-5 hours.

Quality specifications

The documented ginger specification is maximum 12% moisture, ideal below 10%; maximum 8% ash; maximum 2% acid insoluble ash; minimum 1.5 ml/100g volatile oil; and clean, split, well-dried appearance.

Export terms named in the founder source

The ginger section lists dried split ginger, dried whole ginger and fresh ginger, packed in 25 kg or 50 kg polypropylene or jute bags. Minimum order is one 20ft container, 12-14 metric tonnes, with FOB Lagos Port and CIF available.
